Student Leaders Struggling: When the Best & Brightest Need Help

Online Seminar

75-Minute Recording of Audio Online Seminar • Originally Broadcast August 5, 2009
Seminar is co-hosted by Magna Publications and the National Conference on Student Leadership

Solve a problem hidden in your most productive students

They’re easy to spot. The student government president with the 4.0 G.P.A.. The R.A. who also edits the campus newspaper. The student active in campus ministry who spends weekends volunteering at a clinic. On the surface they look invincible. Deep down they could be close to a breakdown.

Students leaders are not immune to stress or mental difficulties. Though they’re usually better equipped to handle the rigors of college life, they sometimes pile on more responsibilities and don’t allow themselves desperately needed downtime. Often advisors don’t see anything wrong until it’s too late. Staff need to recognize the signs of a struggling star student, be aware of the additional stressors an organization might provide and intervene before the student leader has a real crisis.

This online seminar will give you all the tools necessary to keep student leaders on the right track.

  • Understand the risks of emotional and mental crises
  • Recognize the problem signs
  • Know what to do when a student leader needs help
  • Intervention and postvention techniques
  • Re-evaluate demands, offers and expectations placed on student leaders
