The Power of Purposeful Pausing

You often rush through your days on the go go go.

Sometimes that works in your favor – especially when you are in the zone, (sometimes known as being in the “flow”).

However, too often we do not create enough space to slow down, breath, or reflect upon our actions and involvements.

In order to reach your potential and accomplish your goals, you need to purposefully pause.

You need moments of quiet and stillness in order to remain engaged and committed to our work.

Review the importance of purposeful pausing in this National Center for Student Leadership trainer, led by Kevin Bickhart and  Jonathan Kroll.

They provide the tools and techniques necessary to implement this activity in your life.

You will explore:

  • What it means to purposefully pause
  • The three C’s of purposefully pausing
  • The techniques used to create quiet and stillness in a crazy and hectic life

Learning Outcomes

  1. Articulate the important role purposeful pausing can play in peak performance and goal achievement.
  2. Understand what reflection is and how we can use it to enhance our abilities to succeed.
  3. Identify tools and techniques necessary to succeed at purposefully pausing.

Presented by Kevin Bickart and Jonathan Kroll

Kevin Bickart is the CEO and a cofounder of iB-LIEVE, a team of researchers, teachers, and coaches who create developmental training strategies for personal and team growth. He is also finishing his MD/PhD in anatomy and neurobiology at Boston University School of Medicine. For the last 6 years, Kevin has studied how the mind and body thrive in good health and gradually break down in disease. Kevin’s primary interest has been stress management, given its importance in preventing mental and physical illnesses, as well as its contribution to a healthy, balanced lifestyle. Research suggests that the ability to effectively change the way we think is key to successful stress management. With the iB-LIEVE team, he has developed a method to enhance mental “flexibility” that can be used to break unwanted habits, then build and maintain healthy ones.

Jonathan Kroll is an educator and entrepreneur. In both capacities, he focuses on leadership development, community building, and reflection initiatives. Jonathan is a co-founder and director of educational services for iB-LIEVE. Additionally, he is studying for his PhD at Fielding Graduate University in Human and Organizational Development with a focus on Leadership.
